The previous issue of Alex + Ada led to our favorite couple fleeing for their lives following a massive attack on the forum that exposed everyone involved. With the police aware of Ada’s sentience, Alex and Ada have to put together a plan for survival.
Alex + Ada #14 is the most powerful issue in the series. The relationship of the couple develops more organically than ever with some of the most superb writing by the creative team in the series. This is one of the best love stories ever written in the medium, and every moment tends to pull in and captivate readers. There are quite a few small pieces of dialogue scattered throughout the issue that are genuinely heartwarming. The occasional glances between the couple and the looks that they give to each other successfully capture the emotion felt between the two.
This is also the most heartbreaking issue in the series. There is only one issue and left and the creative team is certainly holding nothing back. This issue will sit with readers long after the last page is closed as they wait anxiously for the final issue to release next month.
On art, Jonathan Luna uses simple yet telling panels to convey the action that occurs. There is a lot of running in this issue and at times there are entire pages without dialogue. These pages are very easy to follow thanks to how effective the art is. While simple as always, the art also has much more detail than usual, as we are finally exposed to more outdoor locations and settings. Luna shows just how talented he is and shows flexibility throughout the panels. The final moments of the issue are drawn well and really make add the exclamation point to the end of the issue.
