Hello everyone and welcome to another week of Covering Comics! This week we will be covering some of the best covers that came out last week. Let’s get going!
COVER OF THE WEEK: Cyclops #12 by Andrea Sorrentino
Andrea Sorrentino is one of today’s best artists, and this cover captures everything that makes him great. The use of reds, pinks, and oranges help to amplify the raw power here. The colors are all blended nicely as usual with his art. It seems like every one of his covers could be an awesome print on a wall, and this one is no different.
Gotham Academy Endgame #1 by Joy Ang
The cover for Gotham Academy Endgame #1 is a lighthearted one during a troubling time for the citizens of Gotham. The colors are bright and fun, and the characters are doing something that most kids who told scary stories can relate to. The only difference is that the Joker is scarier than any monster I’ve ever described with a flashlight illuminating my face.
Batman Eternal #52 by Jae Lee
Batman Eternal is concluding with one of the coolest covers in the series. I realize that Jae Lee has been in this column more often than not, but can you honestly say he doesn’t deserve to be? The Dark Knight looks menacing, but also heroic. I can’t think of too many covers that depict the character better than this one.
Uncanny Avengers #3 by Daniel Acuna
Daniel Acuna has had some impressive covers for Uncanny Avengers so far, but this one is by far the best. The characters are all wildly expressive, and the colors are phenomenal.
Dying and the Dead #2 by Ryan Bodenheim
Simplicity can create some of the best covers in comics. This cover makes the list due to all of the parts coming together. Even the title on the cover looks stellar. Half of this cover is blank, but still doesn’t feel underwhelming, and the mushroom cloud below the space is majestic, yet powerful.
