Ahh, the NFL season is drawing near and that can mean one thing (other than football games are back, TV shows coming back, a break from the heat and a tons of other stuff). Huh, I’m less excited for Madden 16 already.
Well, at any rate the new entry in the Madden franchise is here and it’s time to dive deep into all of what I am sure are new and innovative features.
After updating my Xbox One and installing Madden onto the system (that part only takes an hour and a half) I got started!
NEW GAME MECHANICS
At first the game throws you into a hypothetical Super Bowl 50 which features the Arizona Cardinals and the Pittsburgh Steelers. The game introduces its new passing and defensive mechanisms. Now, where you place the ball while throwing is done in 3D, you can tap the Left Bumper to place the ball high or the Left Trigger to place it low while you can still use the left analog stick to place it over the shoulder or the left or right. The defensive mechanism works similar. Pressing A plays the receiver, X swats the ball and Y plays the ball like always. These features are great and work fairly well.
ALL-NEW DRAFT CHAMPION
This year they rolled out a new online mode called ‘Draft Champion’ it allows you to draft 15 players while the computer simulates the rest then it throws you into a online match up with another player that has drafted their own team. It’s a surprising new feature that is a lot of fun.
This is always my favorite mode in Madden. I love taking over and leading a team to a Super Bowl or two. In this years Madden, I got through 5 games before the file became inaccessible. Now, when I try to access that file, the game freezes so the 4 or so hours put into it have been completely wasted ya’know, instead of just marginally wasted.
This feature isn’t on your Xbox but takes place on your laptop. First, you answer a survey about the poor quality of the game, then, when they find they can’t help you still, you unlock the next level: a chat box. This level can frustrating. There is an endless amount of foreigners with long silly names.
Sure you might have just spent the last 40 minutes explaining your problem to one foreigner, but when they can’t help, get ready. You’ll be spending another 40 minutes explaining the same problems to the next foreigner here.
At some point though, you will run through the gauntlet of foreigners. They will give up on you and tell you they will email with a step that could alleviate the problem.
The email will tell you to contact your internet provider.
CONTACTING YOUR INTERNET PROVIDER
This part could be worse. My internet provider has some pretty awesome hold music. 15 minutes in or so you’ll actually talk to someone. This will be a nice change opposed to typing into a chat box. This level can be tricky though but don’t fret, this level comes with a guide.
This level main objectives are:
select the option: Settings -> Network Settings
-select the option: Advanced Settings
-select the option: Alternative Mac Address
-select the option: Clear
-shut down the console.
-disconnect the power cord from the back of the Xbox One and wait two minutes.
-plug the power back in and wait for the power bricks light to go from White to Orange.
-Once the power brick has the Orange light, start the console and try the game again.
The main problem with this level is that even if completed it doesn’t help any. You still can’t get into your saved game and now you’ve spent another 2 hours trying to fix it.
DARKNESS, REMORSE, SADNESS
Sure you bought this game to bring a little joy int to your awful, miserable, life, but now that you have had so many problem you now realize that even video games cant bring you pleasure anymore.
Do I recommend buying this game?
